As Trenton schools slash staff to close $10.5 million deficit, more cuts loom

Superintendent Francisco Duran said the state recently told the district that it made a mistake when calculating the amount of funding that should be withheld from the district’s budget to fund students enrolled in charter schools in September.
“One of the charter schools is enrolling more than initially anticipated,” Duran said.
Duran said the change means the district must transfer about $700,000 more to the Pace Charter School. He added that the students were enrolled months ago, so the state must have made a mistake in relaying that number to the district.
