For many patients, waiting for the results of medical tests or checking information about their medical history to share it with a new doctor is a tedious process, often requiring multiple phone calls.
Now, some hospitals are offering a way for patients to check for results and get detailed information about their conditions online, via secure internet information sites maintained by hospital networks.
“The more informed you are, the more you can begin to participate in the decision-making around your care and around the management of your health conditions,” said Dr. Robert Moser, chief medical informatics officer at St. Francis Medical Center, which offers such a service to its patients, called MyHealth.
