As an individual who grew up in Trenton and who has been employed by the police department for the last 22 years, I have read a number of guest writers’ opinions in The Times on what the next leaders of Trenton need to do to turn the city around, especially from the mess of the last four years. But as we read these pieces, we come to realize that many of them are theoretical in concept and do not provide a specific idea or plan.
Each guest writer and every candidate realizes that crime and the reduction of crime must be at the forefront of any conversation when it comes to improving Trenton.
The problem is that most of their ideas are usually outdated concepts, such as establishing walking posts (foot patrols) that do nothing but cause displacement, that is, they push the criminal element to other parts of the city where the officers aren’t.
