Trenton Central High students, alumni invited to farewell events, auction before school’s demolition
Jenna Pizzi | May 27, 2014The thousands of students who have walked the halls of Trenton Central High School will be invited back for several events this summer to say goodbye before the school is demolished to make way for a state-of-the-art building.The first farewell celebration will be held June 7, with tours of the Chambers Street building that opened on Jan. 4, 1932, an opportunity for alumni to participate in a commemorative video, and bids for different artifacts and keepsakes from the school. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the school.
“We thought it would be nice to for people who want to look at the school for one last time,” said Nancy Lee, the school librarian and one of the event’s organizers.
The school has stood for many decades, and it is prized for its architecture, but maintenance has lagged behind the pace of decay, and the state has agreed to build a better high school, retaining some elements of the old one, while installing upgrades that suit the modern era.
