Editorial: Trenton Central High School gospel choir gives city reason to sing with pride

Trenton has good reason to be proud of the TCHS Inspirational Gospel Choir. Last week, the choir won four first-place awards in competition in Los Angeles.

It was the first time the 31-member choir swept all the awards — Most Outstanding Overall Choir of the Competition; Most Outstanding High School Mixed Chorus in its division; Most Outstanding Soloist (Jaquan Colvin); and the Esprit de Corps award.

The choir earned that last one for encouraging its competitors, displaying respect, and representing the school with decorum. The choir members are not only good singers, but good citizens.

Describing the choir as a “Trenton treasure,” superintendent Francisco Durán said it represents a “a safe haven for our students to not only share their gifts and talents, but it is also a support system where the students share their concerns, their hopes and their dreams.“
