Ewing to discuss long-term vision, strategy for sustainability efforts

Season after season, gardeners can be found working their plots at a community garden here, and in the past few years, the township has upgraded buildings to make them more energy efficient, but the Green Team is looking for opportunities to make Ewing even greener.

On Saturday, the 15-member team will carry out a community “visioning” process by getting residents, township officials and representatives from The College of New Jersey to share their goals for the township five, 10 and 20 years down the road when it comes to sustainability efforts. This is the first step in creating a comprehensive community sustainability plan, said Joanne Mullowney, a Green Team board member.

Another meeting will be scheduled for the fall to review the plan, and the revised plan will be presented early next year, she said. The Green Team was formed in 2009 and last year received a Sustainable Jersey bronze certification, which is given to towns that have made significant steps toward becoming more environmentally friendly.
