Group angered by Trenton’s after-school transportation issues for special-needs students

TRENTON — Parents of city students with special needs said they are growing increasingly frustrated with the city school district’s refusal to transport their children to after-school programs.

The group of about 15 parents, siblings and students came to speak to the school board at their meeting Monday night.

Riickeema Potter, who raised issue with the district in September about its inability to transport her son Mahkeen Wisseh from his early childhood program to a day care facility, said nothing has changed and the district continues to refuse to transport Mahkeen to the program.

“I can’t afford to get him the services that he needs,” said Potter as she spoke to the board members with Mahkeen perched on her right hip.
