TRENTON — Two recent redevelopment projects that transformed blighted blocks into new homes are open and looking for residents.

The Whittaker, a $10 million condominium project by Leewood NJ, has several model home units available for prospective buyers to see, and renters have already begun moving into units at Rush Crossing, a Rider Avenue development that replaced the former Miller Homes public housing project.

The Whittaker, a mixed building with low-income and market-rate units available to buy, will offer new homeowners the ability to choose the finishes to be placed in each unit, such as carpeting, tiles and countertops, so each unit will be customized to the buyer, said Claribel Santiago, a sales associate and assistant marketing manager for Leewood.

Santiago said she has not yet officially closed on the sale of any of the 20 units, but there are three buyers in discussions. The building on the 300 block of South Broad Street is the first phase of a two-phase project which will ultimately include another 20-unit building directly behind the current structure.
