Trenton enters into payment plan with Cherry Hill-based law firm for $65,000 in unpaid bills

TRENTON — After several months without being paid, a law firm that has represented the city on labor and real estate cases for the last few years had to have a sit down with Mayor George Muschal to ask that some payment be made.

As a result, last month city council agreed to pay Cherry Hill-based Becker Meisel $65,000 for the outstanding charges. Muschal also agreed to pay the firm a monthly rate of $12,000 for continued litigation that the firm is working on, according to an April 28 e-mail from Muschal’s office to Tina Vignali, a representative from the state Department of Community Affairs. The e-mail was obtained by The Times through an Open Public Records Request.

Muschal contends that the firm wasn’t paid for several months as the bills stacked up and that representatives from the firm refused to take on more work.
