Trenton Mayor George Muschal prepares to leave office with some goals unfulfilled

TRENTON — When George Muschal was tapped to become mayor to fill out the four remaining months in the term of disgraced former Mayor Tony Mack in February, he pledged to set things right in City Hall and wipe away the corruption from the Mack administration.

Now that his abbreviated term will come to an end on Tuesday with the swearing in of Mayor-elect Eric Jackson, Muschal said he has accomplished part of his agenda, but not all.

“I did some of the things that I put out to do, and that was to try to stop the corruption that was here,” Muschal said during an interview in his office last week.

“Unfortunately some of the corruption is still here. Anything left over from the Mack administration is a major problem.”

Mack reported to a federal prison Thursday for the first day of his 58-month sentence for conspiring to accept nearly $120,000 in bribes from federal informants posing as parking garage developers.
