on June 28, 2014 at 8:42 PM, updated June 28, 2014 at 8:43 PMTRENTON — Two Trenton school board members, including a former president of the board, have resigned from their positions just six weeks after being reappointed by Mayor George Muschal.
Sasa Olessi-Montaño and Mary Taylor-Hayes, who were originally appointed to the board in 2011 by former Mayor Tony Mack before being reappointed this May, each resigned this week. Muschal said the resignations were unexpected.
“I was really shocked,” Muschal said.
Muschal, whose term as mayor ends Tuesday, said he will not fill the vacancies, but will allow the incoming mayor, Eric Jackson, to fill them.
The resignations represent continued turnover for the board, coming during a week that saw its members vote 4-1 to ask the state commissioner of education to remove current President Patrice Daley and just a month after board member James Rolle stepped down.
