Trenton Mayor Eric Jackson promises to lead city with determination, tenacity at inauguration

In the shadow of his predecessor, convicted former Mayor Tony Mack, Eric Jackson was sworn into office Tuesday promising a bright, new future for Trenton under his leadership.

“As I stand here before you I am committed to ensure that our tomorrow will always be brighter than today,” Jackson said shortly after taking the oath of office.

Jackson did not mention Mack by name, referring to the investigation and ultimate conviction of Mack and his cohorts on corruption charges only as “tough times.” However, Jackson applauded the city for making it through.

“Its spirit was never defeated and its people’s determination never faltered,” Jackson said.

Jackson was sworn in by Superior Court Judge Thomas Sumners as Jackson’s wife, Deniece Johnson-Jackson, held the Bible and his son, Adrian, watched on.
