Mural by California artist brings Trenton library to life

A white-walled, windowless room in the Trenton Free Public Library has been brought to life thanks to an enchanted forest mural being painted by California artist Nichole Blackburn.

The nearly 200-foot-wide painting features a sunrise, a sunset, dragons and lots of books, which Blackburn said she hopes will inspire creativity and imagination in the children who come to the room.

“When I was in high school, art really got me going with confidence and imagination,” Blackburn said. “I just feel such a responsibility to get kids access to it.”

Blackburn, of Manhattan Beach, Calif., is donating the mural — valued at about $25,000 — through her nonprofit, Big Sky Countries. The organization accepts donations that allow Blackburn to travel around the world painting murals at no cost to the recipient.
