$130M Trenton Central rebuilding project topic of concern at info session for local businesses
Jenna Pizzi | July 25, 2014Leroy Brown may not be from Trenton, but the 12 employees in his small trucking and hauling business are. Feeling a sense of community pride for his drivers, Brown attended an information session with the state Schools Development Authority today to try to gain some insight on how his company can work on the $130 million project to rebuild Trenton Central High School.“I am encouraged,” Brown said after the event, hosted by the African American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey to help minority local businesses learn about the process of working on state contracts and specifically on the high school.
Brown was one of only a handful of local business owners who attended the event this afternoon, but chamber President John Harmon said although the event did not bring out large numbers of people, it shows the chambers advocacy on behalf of minority businesses. Although the state cannot mandate that minority businesses are chosen as subcontractors for the high school project, Harmon said learning how the process works is the first step in making sure those businesses are on the radar of those contractors.
