Acting Trenton Police Director Parrey implores support in rebuilding city’s police force

TRENTON — Acting Police Director Ernest Parrey stood before a room of 20-plus community members Monday night, stated his case for about 13 minutes, then invited the questions that were sure to be littered with criticisms and concerns.

“I’m ready,” he challenged.

After 40 minutes of back and forth, he won over most of the room.

Parrey preached understanding and implored community support as he attempts to rebuild a police force still affected by drastic 2011 cuts.

He made no promises to those present at the South Ward Community Police Advisory Council meeting at Riverside Nursing Home. He just asked they understand that the changes necessary in the Trenton Police Department will take time — more time than he and everyone else at the meeting want.
