Trenton 250 project paints a picture of the city’s bright future in culture, arts

TRENTON — Artists, historians and those involved in cultural events in the city presented their creative vision Tuesday night of how they believe Trenton can grow and prosper by the year 2042.

Not surprisingly, they suggested that the city could play on its strengths in arts and tourism, particularly its rich historical heritage. The meeting of more than 20 stakeholders in the arts community was held at the Trenton City Museum in the historic Ellarslie Mansion in Cadwalader Park. In small groups, the community members discussed their vision for the city, goals and how to measure those goals.

Overall most of the groups emphasized the need for marketing the city as an arts and tourism destination both to city residents as well as tourists. They also focused on ways to make the city more attractive for artists. The comments will be included in the master plan project known as Trenton 250, a grass roots planning approach to help the city improve on many fronts by the time of its 250th anniversary in 2042.
