Trenton Mayor Eric Jackson’s post-election report shows some campaign contributions over limit
Jenna Pizzi | July 25, 2014Newly elected Mayor Eric Jackson collected about $88,000 in the final days leading up to the June 10 election, including some donations that were over the allowed limit, according to a post-election report his campaign filed with the state last week.
Hunt Hamlin and Ridley, a Newark law firm, contributed $3,000 to the campaign on June 5, 2014, adding to their $6,000 contribution from May 1, 2014, totaling $9,000 — well over the state’s $2,600 contribution limit for corporations or individuals to donate to a candidate, according to reports filed with the state Election Law Enforcement Commission. The law firm also serves as special counsel to the city of Plainfield, where Jackson worked most recently as public works director.
A message left with a partner at the firm requesting comment was not returned.
Julie Roginsky, a spokeswoman and senior adviser for the Jackson campaign, said that the campaign would “amend the report” with regard to the Hunt Hamlin and Ridley donations, but said she was not sure if the excessive donations were a clerical error.
