The opening of a new store in the heart of Trenton may offer a glimmer of light to the city’s economy, according to Mayor Eric Jackson’s administration. Dollar General, a chain store with thousands of locations across the country and more than 40 in New Jersey, is expanding its reach and opening its second store in Trenton. Located at 802 Prospect St., it will host its celebratory grand opening Saturday at 8 a.m.

“Mayor Jackson welcomes Dollar General to Prospect Street,” Michael Walker, spokesman for the Jackson administration said. “Their decision to expand their presence into Trenton is good for the city’s economy and offers residents additional choices to buy local.”

The first 50 adult shoppers will receive a $10 store gift card. The first 200 shoppers will receive a Dollar General tote bag. Dollar General carries name-brand food items, health products, housewares and apparel.
