The ceremony was the grand opening for the Daniel L. Haggerty Jr. Pavilion, which is the final piece in a years-long, million-dollar restoration project of the tennis courts and facilities at the park.
Councilman Zachary Chester, who also is on the board of the National Junior Tennis League of Trenton, said he could remember in 2008 when the facility consisted only of “clay courts with weeds.”
“It may have taken a little bit longer than we anticipated,” Chester said of the project which, at the time, was expected to be completed by 2010. “But the dream of revival is now a reality.”
