TRENTON – With state approval to move forward, Trenton council is scheduled to vote Thursday to award a $20,000 contract to a New Jersey law firm that shared leadership with a political action committee that contributed to Mayor Eric Jackson’s election campaign.

Tammori Petty, a spokeswoman with the state Department of Community Affairs, said this morning that after review, the DCA determined that the contract could proceed to city council for a vote.

“The firm is qualified to perform the services and their price is reasonable,” Petty said in an email.

The contract was pulled from consideration earlier this month after local blogger and whistleblower Kevin Moriarty pointed out the connection between the PAC and the law firm Long Marmero and Associates.

Concern about violation of the city’s pay-to-play law led to much discussion and controversy about the contract and the day before it was set to go to vote, DCA asked for the contract to be pulled for their review.
