Trenton school board president resigns amid calls for removal over possible lawsuit

on September 04, 2014 at 2:32 PMTRENTON – School board President Patrice Daley resigned from the board yesterday amid a call from fellow board members to have her removed from the post.
Daley submitted her letter of resignation on Wednesday to David Hespe, the acting commissioner of the state Department of Education, according to a copy of the letter obtained by The Times.
“Please let this letter serve as my resignation from the Trenton Public School District effective immediately,” Daley wrote.
She gave no further reason for the resignation.
In June, the board members voted to ask Hespe to remove Daley from the board, saying the notice of tort claim reserving her right to sue the school district because of an injury her son received is a conflict of interest. At the time Daley did not comment, but did not immediately resign.
Daley filed the notice of tort claim with the district on April 28, just before she was voted in as the board president in May. According to the document Daley’s son Christopher was hurt at Hedgepeth-Williams School, where he was a student, on Jan. 29.
