Another school board member resigns, making for 5 resignations in 3 months

TRENTON – A fifth Trenton school board member has stepped down from the panel citing personal reasons.

Peter Heredia, an Iraq War veteran who has lived lived in Trenton for more than 20 years, confirmed his resignation from the board Wednesday afternoon.

“My term was only up until May because I was taking the place of someone who resigned,” Heredia said.

Heredia joins four other board members who have resigned in the last few months. There are now three vacancies on the board.

Heredia, whos son attends school in the district, was sworn in to the abbreviated term by former Mayor George Muschal in June, replacing James Rolle. Rolle was appointed by his uncle former Mayor Tony Mack who was ousted from office after a conviction on federal corruption charges.

“I was being spread too thin,” Heredia siad.

He also noted that with the change of administration, he understood that Mayor Eric Jackson, who took office on July 1, would want to install his own people on the school board.
