Making a Difference in the Lives of Young Men of Color: Free Youth Peer Mentoring Training of Trainers-August 2&3 2017

NJPN is partnering with The Council of Southeast Pennsylvania and PRO-ACT and hosting a FREE 2 day Youth Peer Mentoring Training of Trainers (TOT) “Making a Difference in the Lives of Young Men of Color” workshop. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals working in diverse community settings, with young men of color and a desire to learn best practices and effective mentoring methods, tools and strategies.

This 2-day mentoring TOT will focus on the following topics and strategies:

DAY 1

• Youth trends (family income and structure, juvenile justice, invisible children, race/ethnicity)

• Youth culture

• Resiliency among youth (challenges and struggles)

• Communication skills and youth

• Re-entry and the impact on youth

• Roles & Benefits of a Mentor

DAY 2

• Developing self-esteem among youth

• Valuing diversity among youth

• Youth of color and substance use related issues (opioids, prevention, treatment, addiction, overdose, recovery)

• Goal setting and youth

• Connecting youth to resources

• Sustainability

Who should attend?

Anyone working in diverse communities, with young men of color and a desire to learn new mentoring strategies is encouraged to attend. This may include but not limited to anyone working with coalition youth group leaders, Youth to Youth groups, sports coaches, Police Athletic Leagues, Municipal Alliances, Boys and Girls Clubs, YMCA’s, Juvenile Justice Programs, Faith-Based Organizations, Prevention Organizations, and Treatment Agencies.
