TRENTON – A man sitting the passenger seat of a car was shot Wednesday night when another car pulled up alongside his vehicle and one shot was fired from it, police said.

The 28-year-old victim was struck in the torso, taken by ambulance to Capital Health Regional Medical Center and rushed into emergency surgery, Lt. Steve Varn said. The man was in critical but stable condition yesterday.

Police said the shooting happened around 8:45 p.m. at the intersection of South Olden Avenue and Greenwood Avenue.

“While the vehicle he was in was stopped at the light, another vehicle pulled up along the side the victim was in,” Varn said.

Feet away from the victim’s position as the two cars sat stopped on South Olden, someone inside the second car fired once, striking the victim sitting in the passenger seat. The car carrying the suspect then drove away in an unknown direction.

Police could not say for sure whether the victim was the intended target, but it is part of their investigation. Anyone with information on the crime should call police at (609) 989-4170, or the Confidential Tip Line at (609) 989-3663.
