The 30-year-old man was going home around 1:20 a.m. and parked his Nissan XTerra on the first block of Howard Street. As he was getting out of the vehicle, three men approached and one struck him about the face with a small handgun, police said.
“Once he regained consciousnesses, he noticed his vehicle was gone, at which point he called police,” Lt. Steve Varn said.
The carjackers had taken the victim’s wallet, cash and keys to his vehicle. He was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center to be treated for injuries to his face. His wounds were not life-threatening, Varn said.
Police found the XTerra abandoned nearby on Jersey Street a short time after the carjacking occurred.

on November 04, 2013 at 7:20 PM, updated November 04, 2013 at 8:39 PMTRENTON — A city man who was shot in the back late this morning fled his attacker and wound up collapsing in front of a downtown pizza shop, police said.
The 45-year-old victim was in emergency surgery this afternoon after he was shot in the lower back. He was in critical but stable condition and expected to survive, Lt. Steve Varn said.
Though the victim was found on North Broad Street between East State Street and East Hanover Street, police believe he was shot on the 200 block of East Hanover Street, Varn said. The shooting scene is about a block away from downtown.
“It looks like after he was shot, he made his way around the corner,” Varn said today.
Officers were called out to North Broad Street at 11:38 a.m. on a report of a man shot.
He was rushed to Capital Health Regional Medical Center by ambulance, where doctors began the emergency surgery by early afternoon.
Detectives were combing the area for evidence shortly after the shooting, with crime scene tape blocking off half the sidewalk in front of Fabio’s Pizza.
Frank Ferrante, the owner of Fabio’s, said the shooting did not occur in front of his business. He heard no gunshot, and the first sign that something was wrong was the arrival of police and an ambulance, he said.
