Trenton attracted a lot of attention over this past weekend – but not because of the latest political snarl or another outbreak of violence.

The city was a destination for thousands of runners, art enthusiasts, shoppers and tourists. Reports suggest a good time was had by all.

Saturday began with a half marathon and 10K race. Runners from around the country were among the field of 3,200 who took off from Waterfront Park for the Trenton Double Cross Half Marathon (a name not inspired by skulduggery but by the route twice traversing the Delaware).

Joining an ever-increasing number of venues that host half-marathons, Trenton’s offering has the potential to expand in popularity. A well-defined route over the scenic river is part of the draw. A half-marathon also encourages runners who have completed 10K races to take the next step before lacing up for a full marathon. Nationally last year, nearly 2 million runners finished half-marathons. We anticipate seeing more of them next year in Trenton.
