Trenton council approves $31,000 settlement with contractor over unpaid library repairs
By Jenna Pizzi/The Times of Trenton
on November 29, 2013 at 7:45 AMTRENTON – City council members have approved a $31,346 settlement to pay a Trenton contractor for repair work on the city-owned Free Public Library.
The settlement ends a lawsuit filed by Marshall Industrial Technologies after the company was not paid for more than $19,000 in repairs at the library between October 2010 and February 2012.
Assistant City Attorney Marc McKithen said Marshall Industrial sent invoices for the work and should be paid, according to a memo about the settlement agreement.
The dispute over the payments resulted from a disagreement over who should pay the bill — the city or the library board. The library board argued it was the city’s responsibility because the building is owned by the city.
