Crisis Ministry of Mercer County awarded $10,000 grant from Novo Nordisk

TRENTON — Providing healthy foods to those seeking help from a food pantry has been one of the goals of the Crisis Ministry of Mercer County.

The nonprofit organization, which has three pantries, has received a $10,000 grant from Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk, headquartered in Plainsboro, to support its mission, the Crisis Ministry said in a press release.

In October, the Crisis Ministry experienced a record 1,591 visits to its three pantries, two in Trenton and one in Princeton, the release said.

The pantries, which make heart-healthy foods accessible to low-income households and individuals across Mercer County, are stocked with fresh produce, lean proteins and low-salt and low-sugar shelf-stable foods, serving more than 4,000 households annually, the release said. Novo Nordisk, known for its diabetes care products, awarded the grant in support of heart-healthy hunger prevention and nutrition education, the press release said.
