Trenton councilwoman to introduce resolution to encourage council and mayoral candidates to submit to credit check

TRENTON — Candidates for public office in the city should demonstrate that they can at least handle their own finances, since if elected they will oversee a multi-million dollar budget, Councilwoman Phyllis Holly-Ward said yesterday.

Holly-Ward said that later this month she will introduce a resolution for council to vote on that would encourage candidates running for city council or mayor in next year’s election to make public a personal credit report.

Credit reports would give voters a better idea of a candidate’s financial competency, Holly-Ward said.
