Editorial: National Junior Tennis League of Trenton strengthens presence in Cadwalader Park

The rules are clear, the challenge is constant and the rewards immeasurable.
But entry to the sport of tennis has not been accessible to all, particularly those in low-income and urban areas.

Slowly, surely, however, in a match of public and private investment led by the city of Trenton and the National Junior Tennis League of Trenton, the points have been accruing in favor of the city. And, last week, ceremonies marked the groundbreaking for a pavilion in Cadwalader Park.

Construction of the two-story facility will mark the last phase of redeveloping the city’s Junior Champions Tennis Center, Bridget Clerkin reported in The Times. During the four-year project, civic-minded, health-conscious individuals and groups have transformed neglected clay courts to 21 fully refurbished hard courts.

The pavilion’s presence will distinguish the site as the largest outdoor junior development tennis facility in the country.
