Trenton’s Habitat for Humanity launches campaign to buy supplies

With Valentine’s Day approaching, Trenton’s Habitat for Humanity is reminding people that while $20 might buy roses or a box of chocolates, that money can also purchase two tape measures, two boxes of nails or four utility knives, which can be used to build safe, affordable homes.

The nonprofit lists prices of basic construction supplies on its website, where visitors can donate to the “Give from the Heart” campaign.

Launched Monday, the campaign hopes to raise $2,000 by Feb. 20.

“We’ll start small and see what happens,” executive director Tom Caruso said, noting that this is the Trenton chapter’s first time using social media to launch an online-only fundraiser.

The money will help with the “sevenplex build,” a row of seven houses on the 500 block of North Clinton Avenue in Trenton.

The project was made possible when Habitat purchased six lots next to one it already owned. A lot in the middle of the row was donated.
