Trenton Punk Rock Flea Market founder hopes DIY event revitalizes city

TRENTON — Joseph Kuzemka stopped in his tracks: There it was, the white whale of his record collection, on beautiful green vinyl.

Kuzemka is often too busy overseeing the Trenton Punk Rock Flea Market to go shopping once it starts, but after the last customer had left the November event, he found himself face-to-face with a copy of “Undiscovered,” a 7-inch record by Vision, one of his favorite bands.

He had seen Vision play at City Gardens, the legendary Calhoun Street venue, dozens of times, but had never found “Undiscovered,” which had been at the top of his “want” list for years.

“You’re going to come in and find things you wouldn’t be able to find elsewhere,” Kuzemka said. “This isn’t your grandmother’s flea market.”

Three times a year, Kuzemka organizes the Trenton Punk Rock Flea Market, where more than 200 vendors from up and down the East Coast and more than 4,500 others congregate to buy and sell vinyl records, vintage clothing, original artwork and other products.
