Shiloh Baptist’s Rev. Darrell Armstrong wants to transform church, community in Trenton

The Rev. Darrell Armstrong is living proof that it’s not about where you begin, it’s about where you end up. That’s also one of his favorite mantras.

The pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church in Trenton is this year’s recipient of the Casey Foundation’s Excellence for Children Award, which is reserved for foster care alumni.
Armstrong was one of four abused brothers, all of whom were taken from their drug-addicted mother.

“For me getting the award is an affirmation, I hope, to other kids, that you can overcome your obstacles,” Armstrong said.

Casey Family Programs is the nation’s largest philanthropic organization wholly dedicated to the eradication of children in foster care, he said. “As a former kid in foster care in (Los Angeles), to receive the alumni award gives me great encouragement and hope to know that there are institutional resources to help kids navigate the system, but mainly stay out of the system.”
