Convicted Trenton Mayor Tony Mack to be sentenced Thursday
Jenna Pizzi | May 12, 2014More than three months after a federal jury found former city Mayor Tony Mack guilty on six counts of federal corruption charges, the disgraced public official will finally learn his fate.Judge Michael A. Shipp is scheduled to hold a sentencing hearing on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. to determine the punishment for Mack and his brother Ralphiel, both of whom were found guilty of conspiracy to accept tens of thousands of dollars in bribes from federal informants posing as parking garage developers.
At the same hearing Thursday the judge is expected to rule on a motion defense attorneys have made for a new trial. But if Shipp decides sentencing is in order, the Macks may still have some freedom, as in federal cases there is often a short window of time before those convicted but not already behind bars must report to prison.
On Feb. 7, 2014 Tony Mack was found guilty of extortion, bribery, wire fraud and mail fraud. Ralphiel Mack was found guilty of extortion and attempted extortion.
