Trenton mayor hasn’t signed aid agreement with state, putting at risk $5.7 million in funds
Jenna Pizzi | May 21, 2014The agreement has been sitting on his desk for weeks without a signature and Mayor George Muschal says he is digging in his heels. Muschal said today he has not signed an aid agreement with the state Department of Community Affairs and is waiting for its Local Government Services director, Thomas Neff, to address certain issues, which Muschal would not disclose.
At stake is $5.7 million in funding that will help the city meet expenses until the end of the year.
“I want to talk to Tom Neff,” said Muschal, who is serving an abbreviated term to fill out the remainder of convicted former Mayor Tony Mack’s time in office. “We did put in a request to meet Tom Neff. They have been denying our request.”
He said Neff’s office has cancelled appointments on several occasions and there is another meeting on the books for next week.
