Chris Christie continues to push lawmakers for bail reform

HADDON HEIGHTS — Describing in detail a recent shooting in the state’s capital city that occurred at a church during a funeral, Gov. Chris Christie today urged lawmakers to act promptly on a bail reform proposal and send it to his desk.

The governor, speaking at a town hall meeting, promised to immediately sign the proposal that he says is long overdue in New Jersey. The governor wants judges to be able to take accused offenders’ past criminal histories into account when deciding whether to grant them bail.

Christie has long argued for the reform, but worked today to put pressure on Democrats who control the Legislature to act in the coming days before they head out for the summer.
