Trenton man’s construction company helps Catholic Charities keep city residents cool

Will Nance, a Trenton resident, regularly works with Catholic Charities, Diocese of Trenton on several initiatives to give back to his community. And for the third year in a row, Nance, owner of Will & Sons Construction, opened his warehouse on George Street to the organization free of charge to store and distribute 150 air conditioning units, Catholic Charities spokeswoman Lisa Thibault said.

As thermometers crept toward the 90-degree mark last week, area service groups gave low-income, elderly and disabled Mercer County residents a reprieve from the spike in heat and humidity by distributing the free air conditioning units to those in need.

The Medi-Cool program is facilitated by Catholic Charities and partner Rise Inc. of Hightstown. Distribution kicked off June 17, just days before the official onset of the summer season, as residents lined up at Nance’s warehouse at 1125 George St. for an opportunity to keep cool, said Richard Ferreira, Catholic Charities’ program director.

Nance, who rehabilitates older homes, cleared the storage facility of his tools to make room for the air conditioning units and forfeited an entire work day on Wednesday to volunteer his time carrying the units to recipients’ vehicles, Catholic Charities spokeswoman Lisa Thibault said.
