Mercer County National Night Out events to promote peace in the streets

MERCER — Communities around Mercer County will come together tomorrow to meet with their local emergency personnel as part of the annual National Night Out celebration.

Each event involves community activities for children and families and is meant to be a fun way to introduce residents to the police, fire and emergency service individuals who keep order and aid in times of distress. In Trenton, where last year crime reached record levels and this year homicides have shown no signs of abating, National Night Out is a way for city residents to build good relations with police for a coordinated effort to establish peaceful streets.

“National Night Out is a great opportunity for Trentonians to come together to celebrate our iconic city with their families and friends, while also learning about crime prevention, the importance of police-community partnerships and citizens’ role in fighting crime,” said Mayor Eric Jackson in a statement.

“Making more of a concerted effort to connect more deeply with all of Trenton’s neighborhoods is a fundamental part of our plan to reduce crime in the city,” said acting Police Director Ernest Parrey Jr.
