“In general, Capital Health, like all hospitals right now, is working within very limited health care resources, and we’ll be focusing on core hospital programs that we’re uniquely capable of providing,” instead of operating Milestones, hospital spokeswoman Jayne O’Connor said Thursday.
Milestones’ six-member staff averages about nine patients daily, too few to sustain the program, O’Connor said. Staff members and all current patients were informed of the closure last week, and the hospital is working with employees “to find placements elsewhere in the organization,” she said.
The hospital’s mental health outpatient program provides patients short-term, intensive treatment over a four- to six-week period with a goal of reducing disorders such as depression and promoting independent functioning. It will officially close Sept. 5, O’Connor said.’
