Trenton Mayor Eric Jackson re-hires former inspections director to another job in his department

TRENTON — Trenton Mayor Eric Jackson has rehired former inspections director Cleveland Thompson to a technical role in the department.

Jackson confirmed Thursday that Thompson has been brought back on to the job of electrical sub code official in the department.

“It just makes good sense,” Jackson said. “That skill is one that the administration and I need.”

Thompson could not be immediately reached for comment. Thompson is a longtime city employee who started working in the department of inspections in 1989. He was appointed acting director to the department in 2010 and was later made the permanent director in 2012.

Electrical sub code officials make approximately $105,000, according to civil service rules for that title. Thompson has 24 ½ years of service, and the administration is still in the process of calculating the longevity pay he is entitled to, city spokesman Michael Walker said.
