TRENTON – City Council voted 4-3 last night to cut Mayor Tony Mack’s salary, again falling one vote short of the number needed to overcome a mayoral veto.

Council has proposed reducing Mack’s pay a number of times and each time the vote have gone along the same lines. In November the mayor vetoed a pay-cut measure the day after it was approved.

The ordinance approved last night would cut Mack’s annual pay from $126,460 to $65,000, stopping his paychecks for the remainder of the current fiscal year.

Council members Alex Bethea, Kathy McBride and Verlina Reynolds-Jackson voted against the measure and Zachary Chester, Marge Caldwell-Wilson, Phyllis Holly-Ward and George Muschal voted in favor.

The council did not discuss the ordinance or take public comment before the vote.

The November ordinance would have cut Mack’s pay to $60,000.
