TRENTON — Two more candidates for the city’s 2014 mayoral race are expected to officially announce they’re running this week.

Former city Police Director James Golden, who formed a committee to explore a mayoral run in November, is expected to announce his candidacy today at noon at the Trenton Marriott.

Tomorrow night, Mercer County Deputy Clerk Walker Worthy, who told The Times last month he was running for mayor, will formally announce the start of his campaign at the Marriott.

The Trenton mayor’s race is still more than a year away, but that hasn’t stopped candidates from coming forward in recent days and weeks to announce they want the city’s top job. Former public works director Eric Jackson, who finished third in the 2010 mayoral election and has long been rumored to be eyeing another run, confirmed this week he’ll run for mayor next year and would consider running in a special election should Mayor Tony Mack step down or be convicted before May 2014. Mack has been indicted on six federal bribery and extortion charges tied to a bogus land deal and his trial is expected to start sometime this summer.

The other declared candidate is city businessman Patrick Hall. James Gee, chief of staff for Assemblywoman Bonnie Watson Coleman, was considering a run but dropped out of the race last week.
