Trenton man arrested after leading police on foot chase, dropping gun and heroin

on April 23, 2013 at 8:50 AMTRENTON — A 20-year-old city man was arrested Saturday morning after he led two police officers on a foot chase, dropping a gun and heroin behind, police said.
Officers John Sangillo and Travis Maxwell were on the 600 block of Rutherford Avenue around 10:30 a.m. when they saw a man allegedly involved in a drug sale with a person in a car. As they moved closer, the man took off running, Lt. Mark Kieffer said.
The suspect led Sangillo on a foot pursuit through an alleyway between Rutherford Avenue and Rosemont Avenue, where the man allegedly threw down a silver Smith & Wesson revolver and four bundles of heroin.
Police caught the man, Trenton resident Aaron Varlow, and charged him with multiple drug and weapons offenses, including possession of a weapon during a narcotics scheme along with resisting arrest.
